Home Care in Royal Oak MI: Senior Negative Behaviors

Home Care: There are many negative behaviors that often arise in the elderly.

The problem is that it can, sometimes, be difficult to determine the cause of these behaviors. If you are a family caregiver for your elderly loved one, learning about these negative behaviors can give you a better idea of how you or your home care provider can handle them if they come up.

-Having Delusions

One of the negative behaviors that may develop in your elderly loved one is delusions. They have no control over this issue. Some ways that you might notice delusions in your elderly loved one include:

  • Them believing someone is in their house when nobody is there
  • Having them yell at you because they think you are someone else
  • Having them accuse a friend of stealing from them because they “saw” someone take their belongings (even when nothing is missing)
  • There are many types of delusions that your elderly loved one might have and many health issues that can cause this problem. If you or a senior home care provider know that your elderly loved one is having delusions, you should have them see a doctor as soon as possible.

-Becoming Aggressive

Another negative behavior that may present itself in senior citizens is aggression. If your elderly loved one is becoming aggressive, there are many things that could be causing this. Some of these things include:

  • Being unhappy
  • Being irritable about not working or losing a loved one
  • Not being able to properly communicate (ex. If they have dementia)
  • Being uncomfortable with changes that are happening in their life
  • These are just a few reasons why your elderly loved one might be aggressive. If you notice this is happening, try to talk to them about it when they are calm. If nothing comes of that, it might be good to mention it to your elderly loved one’s doctor. If the senior home care providers don’t already know this is happening, make sure they are aware of it, too.

-Being Scared

Many senior citizens start having fears of various things, even if they weren’t scared of it before. Some common things that many senior citizens are scared of include:

  • Someone breaking into their home
  • Falling
  • People taking things from them
  • Losing loved ones
  • If your elderly loved one is having these fears, do your best to reassure them that you are there for them. Let them know they can have senior home care providers around whenever they want if they are scared of being alone.

Home Care: Conclusion

There are many negative behaviors that may be present in your elderly loved one. If you or your home care provider can recognize them, it will be easier to find ways of handling these behaviors.
